Organic Foods
Why Choose Organic Foods Over Non-Organic Foods?
Advocates of organic foods believe that foods grown organically pose less health risks and have more nutritional value than those that are grown using non-organic methods like non-organic fertilizers, pesticides, antibiotics, and hormones. They claim that such chemicals are harmful to the body. Virtually, all non-organically produced foods contain chemical residues. Buying organic food is seen as the only way to avoid ingesting these harmful chemicals.
Foods are considered one hundred percent organic if they are produced by certified farms and processing plants. To be certified, these farms need to be inspected by government officials. Food products grown by organic farms need to come up with standards set by the USDA. Inspectors check whether organic methods are solely used and whether the surroundings are not contaminated with synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and other non-organic compounds in any way.
Purely organic foods are free from residues of dangerous pesticides. Even though research shows that minimal amounts of chemical residues mostly found in non-organically grown foods are not dangerous to your health, some people would rather be safe than sorry. According to studies, children who are exposed to conventional diets are found to have higher levels of pesticides in their systems than those who were fed organically produced foods. Some experts suggest that pesticides, no matter how low the levels, in the body can cause problems with a child’s neurological development.
Several organic food advocates believe they are avoiding antibiotics and growth hormones sometimes used by farms on their livestock. These substances are transmitted from foods like dairy products and meat into our systems. The use of antibiotics on farm animals is believed to be a possible cause bacterial strains that are antibiotic-resistant.
Organic food advocates say that organically produced food is more nutritious compared to those produced using conventional methods. Although there is not enough evidence to support his claim, organic foods are found to have higher Vitamin C and quality protein content. Some research also supports that animals given organic feeds are healthier than those who are fed with processed animal food.
Organic farming is not only more beneficial to animals, but to the environment as a while. Organic farms are being endorsed by many wildlife and land conservation programs.
